The Arts Initiative is dedicated to providing a platform for University of Michigan students to share their artistic voice and creativity!
These programs showcase a wide range of student creative work.
Arts Initiative believes there is an artist inside each of us. These competitions are your opportunity to share your artistic genius, exhibit your work for the University community and win some prizes! Competitions will be held periodically throughout the year, with calls for art using different themes and mediums. Submissions are narrowed down by staff, and then the finalists are voted on by the public in the Unions and by the U-M Community online. Winners get great prizes, so be sure you’re signed up for Arts Info, our weekly email, so you’ll hear about our future contests and opportunities.
Outstanding Achievement by a Student Organization in Alternative Performance
Revolution is the Chinese Yoyo team at the University of Michigan, founded in the Winter of 2009. Blending the traditional pastime of Chinese Yoyo with modern music and original choreography, they aim to promote Chinese Yoyo as a performance art and bring awareness to Asian American culture. As one of the most unique performance teams in the Midwest, Revolution champions creativity, synchronicity, and teamwork to deliver unforgettable shows. Revolution has performed at a variety of events both on and off campus, including Arts, Beats, and Eats in Royal Oak, CSA’s Celebrasia, and Generation Asian Pacific American’s esteemed annual show. They also successfully held their annual collaborative show Yotonix with fellow performance group UM Photonix. All of their choreography is created by their members, and features unique dance-yoyo fusion never before seen in either the yoyo or dance communities. Revolution has become an inspiration to many other performance communities across the country.
